Hi all,
well its been a while since i posted in here, so thought this would be a good place to express my excitement at burning my first cd. I followd a tutorial on the vipconduit site, and the only trouble i had was when pressing alt enter to bring up the properties dialogue didn't bring up the same things on my computer as it did his. When i try to follow along with a tutorial on my computer, and pressing th esame keystrokes on my computer doesn't give th esame results as it does on the person doing the tutorial, i get totaly lost and confused and don't know what to do. i had some old cdr's my mom bought me one time, when she didn't kinow what they were for, and i couldn't use them for 8 years, now i can. I finaly solved my problem by pressing the right mouse button instead of pressing alt enter to get the right properties. I burned a book from the librivox website where they have several old books in th epublic domain. I chose present at a hanging and other ghost stories to burn, and the cd worked with my portable mp3 player, and i got the whole book, 58 mb in size on one disc. I'm now in the process of downloading ghost stories of an antiquary by m r james. I wanted to download and burn the parenticide club by ambrose bierce, but the file is all corrupted. I hope they fix trhhhat soon. I plan on burning, frankenstien, dracula, dr dolittle, ten days in a madhouse, and heidi. Sujre hope i can get all the stories from ghost stories of an antiquary on th esame disc as present at a hanging and other stories. I'm just so excited i got it to work, and my very first time!

Good for you! Burning CDs is a good thing for sure. Remember that each blank CD will hold over 700 megs of stuf on it, so consider building enough books up on your hard drive so you can put them all on one CD with each book in a separate folder.
thanks for the advice godzilla, wish i'd done that when i downloaded my first book, and when i downloaded the first 2 stories in ghosts of an antiquary. The reason i didn't was because i want to make sure the programs i download will go my download folder. as it is now, anything i download goes in my download folder, whether its mp3's .exe or whatever, so i had to just hold down the control key and hit the space bar on the ones i wanted to burn. oh well guess i can't correct the cd now. since present at a hanging and other ghost stories and the ghosts of an antiquary are all short stories and not a novel, but short stories in them selves, i want to put all those stories on one cd. however i want to put dracula, frankenstien and dr dolittle on separate cds, since they're separate books. I don't think all 3 books will fit on one cd anyway. I notice it won't let you assign long file names, so I just callled the cd ghost stories.

on second thought, that will work fine, cheryl' otr collections are all in separate folders. i'd forgotten about the folders thing, because i'd lately beeen listening to the otr shows on my portable mp3 player, which doesn't recognize folders, but that would work nicely if more than one book woulod fit on the same cd. unfortunately it was my first time burning a cd, and i was just concderned at the time about getting it done and making sure it works, so i didn't think about putting each section of stories in a folder, so now, the cd won't recognize by folders if i should listen to them on the computer instead of my mp3 player. thats the only thing about cdrs' you can't go back and do it over, oh well, i'll kinow better next time.
